Mothers

We are coming upon the day we celebrate the role our mothers have played in our lives and to give them honor for all they have done for us.  I have learned that Mother's Day is not just a day to honor biological mothers but also those "mothers" who have stood in the gap for mothers not present.  I honor my mother, a woman who could not have been a better, more loving mom to be; I also honor Mamma Lorraine who has been there for me through thick and thin since the day my mom went to receive her reward.  The third mother in my life that I honor is Matt's mom.  I am able to reap the benefits of her mothering, in that she raised him to be an honorable, Godly man.  Thank you mom, Mamma Lorraine, and Mrs. Donna for your beautiful mother hearts and for bringing such love into my life. I love all three of you! : )

Yours were the first eyes I looked into.
Yours were the first arms to hold me tight.
You were the first to show me never-ending love and compassion.
Forever . . . you are my mother
And I am blessed.

Rainy day...

It's one of those rainy, dreary days.  The day practically begs me to wrap up in a fuzzy afghan and sip warm tea while enjoying a good book.  Thankfully I got out of work early today so I can actually do that. I am one of those people that enjoys a dreary day every once in awhile.  It puts me in the mood for coziness and helps remind me of how blessed I am that I have a home to be cozy in.  Now I don't want it to be rainy every day... I love sunshine way too much for that.  But I will always enjoy a random rainy day here and there : ).

"Let the rain kiss you. Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops. Let the rain sing you a lullaby."

Feeling accomplished...

Oh my.  It is such a wonderful feeling to know that I have finished another semester with good grades.  This semester makes it three under my belt so far.  I feel that at 24 I can fully engage in my classes where was when I was 18 I didn't see the point of them.  I love learning and have learned so much about the world and myself.  I have gained so much more confidence in myself over the last three semesters.  I know that if I work hard, my work will pay off with a good grade but more importantly with self satisfaction.  I don't mean to give the false impression that I am always so thankful for my classes and I never complain.  Boy, Husband could attest to the fact that I often moaned and complained while in the thick of the work.  With that mention, this a great time to mention how without him I wouldn't have been able to go back to school.  When I lack confidence in myself, he is quick to lend me some of his confidence that he has for me.  When I complain about how the classes are taking away from our time together, he reassures that it is only for a season and we can do anything for a season.  When I feel overwhelmed with juggling my jobs and school, he makes me pause, wraps me in his arms and reminds me that he has strong arms to help with the juggling. Have I mentioned how lucky I am to have him in my life? : )

To My Dear and Loving Husband (1678)  - Anne Bradstreet

If ever two were one, then surely we.
If ever man were loved by wife, then thee;
If ever wife was happy in a man,
Compare with me, ye women, if you can.
I prize thy love more than whole mines of gold
Or all the riches that the East doth hold.
My love is such that rivers cannot quench,
Nor ought but love from thee, give recompense.
Thy love is such I can no way repay,
The heavens reward thee manifold, I pray.
Then while we live, in love let's so persevere
That when we live no more, we may live ever.

Goals

Goals for this month:

Pass my three classes with an "A"

Run everyday

Run the Annual Ben Layton Memorial 5K

Finish the book I borrowed from a classmate

Blog more often (I've missed my blog!)

Spend more time with Matt

Spend more time with God (most important!)

I think these goals are achievable, I just need to learn to manage my time in a better way. I plan for that to be the main goal of my "twenties". : )

A Peaceful Summer Day

"Peaceful Summer Day" by Gary R. Ferris

Sitting on the front porch enjoying a peaceful summer day,

Writing down the words that He’s given me to say.

Sipping on my coffee and watching the wind blow the trees,

Quietly watching the birds sailing in the breeze.
*****
When I look at this beauty it takes my cares away,

The majestic mountains that top these skies today.

Off in a distance a bird begins to sing,

And the sounds of the country and the music it can bring.
*****
The dogs are lying in the sun and lost in the deep,

To watch them in this summer breeze make me want to fall asleep.

To realize that I have been so blessed,

All of my troubles become no more than a pest.
*****

Listening to the sound of children playing in the sun,

Reminds me of a boy and all the things I had done.

Laughing and playing and cherishing each day,

Sometimes I wish that those times were here to stay.
*****
In a world full of struggle, turmoil, and strife,

I feel so blessed to get to live this life.

There are no brilliant words that I could ever say,

That ever could describe a peaceful summer day.

Family day

A silly picture of Scottie and me waiting for Stef to finish with her doctor's appointment and trying to wait patiently since we were anticipating our day at Frontier Towne's water park. We got there and had a great time with family: speeding down the waterslides, relaxing in the lazy river, playing around in the kiddie pool, and eating our huge hotdogs and plentiful fries. Definitely a fun day : ).

New Haircut!

So thankful for my haircut! I feel much more like myself with this style and it was wonderful to be able to go down the street from where we live and get such upscale treatment. Thanks Salon at Somerset and Paige (the fabulous stylist)!
